Avery's first big injury
Not because it was in front of all of 145 of my in-laws (cousins, aunt, uncles, friends, grandparents, dogs etc) and I felt like a beginner idiot young mom in front of all of them, but because I freaked out worse than Avery. Way worse.
Ave whacked her head (seriously hard) on a jagged stone wall and her head swelled up like hot air balloon right in front of my eyes. I thought, as a mom, when something awful happens to your kid, you get in "the zone" and take care of business without emotion to sway you from rescuing your child.
Apparently I lack that instinctual response because I started crying and screaming like someone just set my hair on fire. I set Avery on my Aunt and Uncle-in-law's countertop and looked at her and thought, "What the f**#& do I do?!" while all 3,248 of my in-laws gathered around me and probably thought, "What the f*#&@ is she going to do?!"
I'll tell you what I'm going to do. Im going to cry like a big baby and scream and yell profanities in front of all your children. That's what I'm going to do. Godddddd.
So, Avery slept with us last night and woke up
this morning with a teeny tiny bruise on her head. I might as well have gotten a tattoo on her head saying "My mom is a psychopath," because that's basically what her little bump represented anyway. Heres a picture of Avery with her own personal little Easter egg in the bath just now:
You might be saying to yourself, "Well, that's not so bad" and possibly, "What a lovely bath time that probably was."
Hmm. Not really. I'll tell you why she was in the bath. This was her
This was her Easter dress about 30 minutes ago:
No. That's not a melted Cadbury Egg. That's Avery's body giving her mom a big "eff you" for all the jelly beans she's been devouring this weekend. Oops.
Seriously though, we had a lot of fun this weekend. Watching Avery gather Easter eggs and place them in her basket and look up at us with joy and pride made my heart almost explode with happiness. I love her so so much (even though while I've been writing this she has been piling the dog food in a huge kibble mountain in the middle of the living room rug... yup, that's a lot of love!)
